First Reading
Sirach 27:30—28:7
Read this as the first big movement of the day. Notice what God is doing, who is speaking, and what part of the story or teaching should stay with you.
27:30A mischievous guidance shall be rolled back upon the author, and he shall not know from whence it comes to him.
31Mockery and shame are of the proud, and vengeance as a lion shall lie in wait for him.
32They shall perish in a snare that are delighted with the fall of the righteous: and sorrow shall destroy them before they die.
28:1He that seeketh to revenge himself, shall find vengeance from the Lord, and he will surely keep his sins in remembrance.
2Forgive your neighbour if he has hurt you: and then shall your sins be forgiven to you when you prayest.
3Man to man reserveth anger, and does he seek remedy of God?
4He has no mercy on a man like himself, and does he entreat for his own sins?
5He that is but flesh, nourisheth anger, and does he ask forgiveness of God? who shall obtain pardon for his sins?
6Remember your last things, and let enmity cease:
7For corruption and death hang over in his commands. In his commands... Supply the sentence out of the Greek thus: Remember corruption and death, and abide in the commands.
