En Gaza, en Palestina, san Porfirio, obispo, el cual, nacido en Tesalónica, vivió como anacoreta en Scete durante cinco años, y otros tantos al otro lado del Jordán, siendo célebre por su benignidad hacia los pobres. Hecho obispo de Gaza, hizo demoler muchos templos de ídolos, cuyos seguidores le hicieron la vida difícil hasta que descansó venerable con los santos.
