Conmemoración de san Elías Tesbita, profeta del Señor en tiempo de Ajab y Ococías, reyes de Israel, que defendió los derechos del único Dios ante el pueblo infiel a su Señor, con tal valor que prefiguró no sólo a Juan Bautista sino al mismo Cristo. No dejó oráculos escritos, pero se le ha recordado siempre fielmente, sobre todo en el Monte Carmelo.
